Join Bilbo Baggins on his unexpected journey across Middle-Earth with Gandalf the Wizard and a company of thirteen Dwarves, all from the brilliant new movie which is simply spectacular. Included within this 61 page hardback volume are some exciting treats, such as; your own company contract, full-color map of the company’s journey across Middle-Earth (from Mirkwood to the Misty Mountains and Rivendell), cut-out bookmarks and character profiles. What also makes this annual special is that alongside the frivolities is the detailed information included about each character and how the film is connected to JRR Tolkien’s novel “The Hobbit” – which is a treat for those who want in-depth material on the story that was put on the big screen. Fun activities include: Puzzles, wordsearch, drawing And my favorite… Riddles in the dark! I am so pleased to add ‘the Hobbit: 2013 annual’ to my collection, as a fan of both the book and the incredible first film. I however do feel that at £7.99 (UK pricing) it is certainly over priced and so if you can purchase this second-hand, then I would highly recommend that you do so for it would make an ideal, inspired gift or present for any Hobbit lover. Due to the price I have rated this accordingly, for I purchased my own copy a lot cheaper online secondhand.

I said to myself that after being disappointed with the films of LotR I wouldn't get caught up in the Hobbit hype machine. But I did, and so here is the first of all the tie-in books that I am obviously buying. I can see how this would be quite a fun book for kids, but it also gives an insight in to the plot of the film and how Peter, Fran, and Phil have worked to create a character and identity for all of the 13 dwarves. But I did, and so here is the first of all the tie-in books that I am obviously buying. I can see how this would be quite a fun book for kids, but it also gives an insight in to the plot of the film and how Peter, Fran, and Phil have worked to create a character and identity for all of the 13 dwarves. This book was, however, created before the decision to change the planned 2 films into 3 and came out before there was time to change any of the content so the plot and characters cover some details that we now actually won't get until the 2nd film (The Desolation of Smaug). So that's actually a fun bonus. The book has 9 pages of character profiles: a double page for Bilbo, Gandalf, and Thorin. Single pages for Elrond, Gollum, and Thranduil. The other 12 dwarves get 6 pages between them (2 to a page). There's also a nice map highlighting some of the places on their journey. The rest is 35 pages of activities, puzzles, games, and 'posters' (full page pictures) - including Bilbo and Gollum's riddles, the moon runes + key for you to decipher, and an answers page at the very back. The puzzles vary in degree of difficultly so would be fun for a range of ages, but what was interesting for me is that a lot of the quizzes also provide additional clues to characterisations or plot. There are plenty of pictures throughout, some that hadn't been seen on the internet before hand, but they're mostly all just character shots - only a few show actual scenes from the film and they're nearly all shots that've been used in the trailer. A lot of the art work is also very heavily photoshopped (to make 'pretty'), a bit too much for my liking at times. Like, they've made it pretty, but then got a bit carried away and gone too far. The most interesting parts, for me, were reading part of Bilbo's diary that has been made up for the film (perhaps we'll see it on screen?), it's very thoughtfully made, and Hobbit-y feeling; and reading the 12 dwarf profiles to see how they'd taken small details from the books and developed them in to full characters, and what character traits they'd given the ones who have no small details in the book. Interesting.

Penggambaran suasana dan mahluk-mahluk cantik dan mengerikan dalam buku ini seolah nyata sampai kita bisa terseret masuk pada sebuah cerita. Sungguh luar biasa kebagusan yang dimiliki pengarang. Sangat cerdas.

The Hobbit is a fiction book originally written in 1937 by J.R.R Tolkien who is also known as the creator of Middle-earth. From reading the back cover I was expecting an exciting adventure book. Later when I was about half way through the book it started to drag on. During the first half of the book the hobbit, dwarves, and the wizard were walking to the Lonely Mountain, the dwarves homeland, that there trying to reclaim from the dragon. This was boring because it was mostly dialogue and there wasn't much action. A bit further in, more exciting things started to happen. The group started get in to massive fights with a variety of beasts and got ever so closer the Lonely Mountain. I Believe that this book was effective at its purpose which was to entertain. This book was entertaining because it was full of surprises with the hobbit and dwarves fighting for their lives against strange beasts and hardships. I believe that Tolkien was inspired to write this book because of his own war experience battling in France during the battle of Somme in WWI. In his book the Hobbit Bilbo goes on an adventure and battles beasts, Tolkien went to France to battle the German army. Perhaps the time he spent in the trenches is reflected in the plot twist, and the sense of danger.

The Hobbit is a great book. It is about a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins. He lives a comfortable life and doesn't travel anywhere. He isn't very sociable with other people and stays to himself. As they travel to different places they enter caves and far away lands. Throughout those lands Bilbo Baggins encounters magic, a ring and a creature named Gollum. I would recommend this to someone who likes The Lord of the rings books and movies, or to someone who likes reading fantasy. My favorite part in the book was when the dwarfs took over Bilbo's house. Another part I liked was when the author was describing the dwarfs.

In my opinion of the hobbit an unexpected journey by Paddy Kempshall, was one of the greatest book I've read. I had never read so much adventure and mythical war between two worlds in a book. the first chapter an unexpected party, was the best first chapter that I've ever read. It was also a very long chapter. I did have some difficulty with the language but I did get there. this book is also has a movie to go along with it and which I also watched. this was one of the best fantasy books that I In my opinion of the hobbit an unexpected journey by Paddy Kempshall, was one of the greatest book I've read. I am a massive The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings fan so I bought this almost as soon as it came out. I enjoyed it because it had some facts in there that I didn't know before and I learn't quite a lot from it. My younger brother (Aged 12 and has a disability) also got the same annual for Christmas and we read it (doing puzzles in between) through together it was interesting and fun to read. Fantastic for Hobbit fans like me!

I haven't read the LOTR books yet, and only recently came into knowledge of the characters or plot at all. But regardless of no preexisting love for J.R.R. Tolkien, I am now a fan through and through. The Hobbit is a classic tale of adventure and finding oneself, but it is set in a tale of exquisite description and magical creatures that should please the vast majority of readers; regardless of age.

Good book but I get lost a lot. I don't understand how a hobbit meats all the dwarfs. I wouldn't let anyone in to my house if I didn't know them or know what they were going to do with me or to me. I like the adventures they go on. I don't understand how when they steal all the stuff from the goblins how Endalf came back to defeat them. All in all it was an ok book not to good not to bad.

Very magical and entertaining. Unfortunately I saw the movie before reading the book. The book was a lot more lighthearted and fun than the movie. I was a little disappointed in how the dragon died. I was hoping that the dwarves would have killed him and finished their mission.

This was a fun read. I enjoy the facts that are in here. I also enjoyed the games and activities within the book. It made it all the more fun. I wish there were more facts on the characters and things but for what it was it was good. Im glad that I have this for my Tolkien collection.

An example of many hands in many mediums working with and adding to Tolkien's legendary. Some fan literature has helped me to value this.
